Our Founder and Before Gelbul…

The founder of our company, Omer Gulec, worked as a salesman in a paper shop for 3 years after he had moved to Istanbul in 1961. In the same years, he served as a reporter for almost 1 year in a subsidiary of Özden Gazetesi.

As soon as he completed his military service, he returned toIstanbuland started to work in İsmail Akgün Müesseseleri. In consequence of his good relations with Güzel Sanatlar Matbaası, he made an offer to the printing house for putting that printing house's waste papers to good use and thus engaged in his first commercial activity. Upon starting to buy and sell the waste papers of Hayat Mecmuası after a while later, he registered with the revenue office in 1967 and established his company with Tax ID Number 14608 of Mercan Tax Office. The name of the company was already decided: "GELBUL Paper".

Gelbul, which promoted its relations with both the sector and production plants in respect of waste paper between the years of 1967 and 1970, increased the number of its customers every year by 100%. Having extended its portfolio, Gelbul switched to cardboard types in 1971.  The company started to trade cardboard with the opening of production plants such as SEKA and Dalaman. It increased its presence in the sector by collaborating with the biggest printing houses of the period.

Ranking among the top five companies of its sector in and after 1980 thanks to its increasing trading volume and the trust in the company on the market, Gelbul became the strategic supplier of the most significant players of the packaging and printing sector inTurkey.

As the sons of Mr. Gulec started to work professionally with him in 1990s, the company made crucial progresses in terms of institutionalism, international trade and finance and became a key actor not only in its region but also in Turkey.

Birth of the Name "Gelbul"
